A formula is a series of decisions

We built the Magnesium Ritual around a clear standard: pairing active minerals with nourishing plant emollients, barrier-nurturing nutrients, and natural botanical extracts—ensuring every component in the bottle serves a real purpose for your skin and body.

That meant a rigorous formulation path. It meant finding the right balance between an active magnesium and a smooth, elegant skin feel that sinks in without tackiness. What's in the bottle is completely transparent, and every line of it is intentional.

"A purposeful ingredient list isn't just about what you leave out. It's about ensuring every single component works in harmony to support skin health and relaxation." — The Kind Habit formulation notes

Below is that list, told properly — where each element comes from, why it's there, and what it's actually doing while you sleep.

The Mineral

Magnesium Chloride

Magnesium chloride is a classic choice for topical care, included to support a sense of evening calm—without the heavy stickiness or irritation of overly dense salt formulas.

This is the active heart of the ritual — supported by a nourishing base of emollients and plant gums designed to optimize application and comfort.

The Nutrient

Niacinamide & Saccharide Isomerate (B3)

Vitamin B3 (Niacinamide) and advanced botanical moisture magnets like Saccharide Isomerate are included for a vital reason: nightly application means frequent, routine contact with your skin barrier. We wanted a ritual that helps to calm daily tension while actively conditioning and protecting the skin.

They work in tandem to lock in deep hydration, improve skin texture, and support your skin's natural moisture barrier overnight.

The Stabiliser

Shea Butter, Sunflower & Olive Oils

A harmonious blend of rich shea butter, sunflower seed oil, and olive fruit oil provides a velvety glide without clogging pores. These plant-derived lipids reinforce the skin's lipid barrier and seal in moisture.

Enhanced with Vitamin E to protect these natural oils from oxidation, ensuring the formula stays fresh and nourishing from the first pump to the last.

The Signal

Lavender & Chamomile Extracts

Pure lavender and chamomile essential oils are chosen to cue the nervous system that the day is winding down. Scent is one of the fastest biological signals the body uses to transition into rest.

We use pure botanical extracts rather than synthetic fragrance replicas, providing an authentic, complex aroma profile without unnecessary chemical compounds.

The Omission

Thoughtfully Formulated

This isn't an ingredient — it's a constraint we held ourselves to. Every component in the bottle was chosen with a single standard in mind: that it must earn its place by actively supporting the skin's daily comfort.

We built the ritual around a purposeful blend where every component has a real job to do — balancing active minerals, nourishing plant oils, and clean, skin-friendly stabilizers that ensure the formula stays safe, stable, and luxurious from the first pump to the last.

A formula built on balance

Creating a smooth, stable emulsion with active minerals is a distinct technical challenge. By combining safe, skin-friendly emulsifiers, plant-derived gums like tamarind seed, and clean humectants like glycerin and propanediol, we achieved a velvety texture that absorbs cleanly without stickiness.

That is our formulation philosophy in practice — holding ourselves to a quiet standard of steady comfort, sensory ease, and thoughtful care from the first application to the final dimmed light.

Questions We Get Asked

"Why magnesium chloride and not another form, like magnesium sulfate?"

Chloride forms are generally considered more readily absorbed through skin than sulfate forms, making them optimal for a targeted topical ritual.

— Answered by our formulation team

"Is the scent from essential oils or fragrance oil?"

Pure lavender and chamomile botanical extracts, not a synthetic fragrance blend. It's part of why the aromatic experience feels grounding and fades naturally.

— Answered by our formulation team

"Why is the ingredient list so short compared to other lotions?"

Because we didn't add anything whose only job was texture or shelf appeal. Every line is doing something for the person wearing it.
